Albany Capitals History

1987

Club Started as AGH Girls Club by Joe Anastasio, Pat Gremmler and Chuck Heffernan.

1992

The "Albany Capitals" emerge with new leadership consisting of Bill Griffin, President; Greg Bayduss, Officer & Coach; George Person, Treasurer & Coach; and Tony Butler, Officer & Coach.

1993

First year with 6 teams. First Albany Capitals Classic Tournament. First Director is Rich Czech.

1994

Albany Capitals Classic Tournament grows to 47 teams from 8 states. New Director is Kim Blot. First Blue Chip Shoot-out at the University at Albany. First Director is Greg Bayduss.

1995

Albany Capitals sponsor local Albany Capitals Girls Basketball League for 5th through 8th grade girls.

1996

Albany Capitals World Wide Web site created by Bill Griffin, Greg Bayduss and Lou Pietrocarlo. The Albany Capitals went live on the Internet on April 18, 1996. The Capitals were one of the first AAU clubs in the United States to establish a web site on the World Wide Web (WWW). We had 4,595 visitors during our first year on the WWW.

First Issue of the Albany Capitals Newsletter. Editors Ginny McQuad & Eileen Chambers.

1997

First Albany Capitals Killer Bees Tournament. First Director is Dave Decker. Albany Capitals help initiate Capital District - Girls Spring Basketball league for 11 to 16 year old girls. First coordinator is Mike Smith.

1998

Dave Decker becomes President replacing Bill Griffin. Club re-organized with a Board of Directors established.

1999

Capitals web site service provider CRISNY, Inc. is acquired by the Albany Times Union's Knick.net internet service. The Albany Capitals begin sponsorship of the Northeast Basketball Association (NEBA) league for college level female players in the Capital region.

2001

Kim Blot assumes Presidency. Ed Murphy is elected to Treasurer and Lisa Hurley Fruscio secretary.

2002

After six years of dedication, Lou Pietrocarlo steps down as webmaster for the Albany Capitals. This role has been assumed by Jerry Adach. The Capitals registered a new domain name (albanycapitals.org) which went live April 4, 2002 and recorded exactly 9,958 user sessions (visits) in its first month of tracking.

2006

Ed Murphy steps down as Treasurer and Tom Iachetta is elected.

2007

Jim McCormick is elected as President. Kim Blot is elected to Secretary.
